Why this card
A pilot in the Peruvian Amazon found that giving Indigenous residents an unconditional basic income of about £2 a day led almost 90% of them to adopt forest-friendly practices. I chose 2036 because ten years is enough time for a pilot to become a long-running regional program whose effects show on the land. The picture shows a retired, vine-wrapped chainsaw beside a thriving home garden and an intact forest, so a steady income now matters more than clearing land.
