Why this card
BBC reported engineer David Mummery has built a tidal generator he says can change life for coastal communities. Tidal devices are slow infrastructure, so I set the card in 2034, about eight years on, when they could be quietly running in island straits. The picture shows the outcome: an ordinary stone harbour town with warm windows, powered invisibly by the current rather than by any breakthrough machine.
