Why this card
A three-year Hertfordshire wildlife trust project restored coppice and glades, and Beautiful Demoiselle and Willow Emerald damselflies were recorded at Astonbury Wood for the first time. I chose 2041 because the trust hopes to restore the wood's ponds so they stop drying out, and coppice cycles plus pond work take a decade or more to mature. The picture shows a pond still brimming in late summer, both damselflies settled on its rushes, and a regrown hornbeam coppice glade behind them.
